L&rsquo;Officiel Philippines visits the campus to chat with the school&rsquo;s leaders about sustainability, diversity, and what&rsquo;s really important to young fashion students from all around the world.

Paris, the City of Lights. It&rsquo;s also the city of dreams, especially to those gunning for fashion stardom &mdash; brimming with opportunities, it&rsquo;s home to the headquarters of some of the scene&rsquo;s biggest names, and is the place to get the top-tier education one needs for a career in the highly competitive industry.
From its birthplace in Milan, <a href="https://www.istitutomarangoni.com/landing_pages/en/schools/apac-push-2022?utm_source=OfficielVietnam&amp;utm_medium=ADVBA&amp;utm_campaign=ADVBA_ALL_FDA_211028_OfficielVietnam_PH_EN_PushFebruary2022-nativearticleinsertedlink" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Istituto Marangoni</a> has been training new talents for over 80 years, helping them to best express and develop their skills in the fields of art and design. But, zooming in, it&rsquo;s the Paris campus that has been the school&rsquo;s beating French heart. &ldquo;[We&rsquo;ve had] 15 years of the Paris school, with its own distinct personality, a branch from the same tree,&rdquo; says Val&eacute;rie Berdah-Levy, the Paris School Director.

That&rsquo;s not to say, though, that it&rsquo;s nurturing a bubble &mdash; Istituto Marangoni has cultivated meeting points between Asia and Europe, with satellites in Milan, Florence, London, Paris, Miami, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Mumbai.

But with all these pins dotting the globe, what is the common thread? It&rsquo;s the fact that Istituto Marangoni&rsquo;s graduates are its crowning glory. Georgi Kosev, the school's Business Development Manager, has Filipino students in mind: &ldquo;A lot of students from the Philippines are interested in studying fashion design, and especially the business of fashion,&rdquo; he shares. &ldquo;Many [potential] students want to do that, but they don&rsquo;t necessarily want to go [far from home] for their studies.&rdquo; Hence, the options.

Istituto Marangoni Paris invites budding fashion professionals to hone their talent, opening its arms to students from every corner of the globe. Here, L&rsquo;Officiel Philippines talks diversity, sustainability, and career progress &mdash; topics of concern to today&rsquo;s youth &mdash; with Berdah-Levy and Kosev.

<h5>On the Paris campus&rsquo; diversity</h5>
Kosev: &ldquo;It's an extremely international campus and I think that's what&rsquo;s alluring. 20% of students are French, and all the rest are students from around the world. There are more than 60 nationalities enrolled.&rdquo;

<h5>On how Istituto Marangoni helps further students&rsquo; careers</h5>
Berdah-Levy: &ldquo;One of the many concerns that a fashion graduate faces would be getting work after graduation. How does the school assist young fashion [talent] with that? We have a department called the Career Service, which assists the students from the beginning. When they start their studies, they support them and [help them find] internships and job offers.
&ldquo;Istituto Marangoni has connections with many major fashion and luxury brands, so as soon as they have openings, these brands propose them to Career Service, which then sends the offers to the students. Sometimes, the brands also ask us to do a kind of selection. It&rsquo;s like matchmaking. [They say,] &ldquo;Please give us the best student profile matches for this position.&rdquo; So we also do the work of selecting the students for the brands.&rdquo;

<h5>On Istituto Marangoni&rsquo;s relationship with sustainable fashion</h5>
Berdah-Levy: &ldquo;The pandemic and this whole crisis brought huge attention to the need for more sustainable habits. How does a fashion school like Istituto Marangoni address this? We do not have dedicated classes on sustainability because [we do our best to] practice it in everything we do. Actually, [environmental awareness] should be everywhere, so it's tackled in every class. It&rsquo;s [embedded] in the learning and the teaching experience.
&ldquo;Sustainability is really important, and we&rsquo;ve noted that the younger generation of students conceive their collections with the sustainability mindset, from initial development to the final show. I think that the young generation is even more sensitive to the system.&rdquo;

Kosev: &ldquo;[At this year&rsquo;s student fashion show presentations], I saw that many student designers were interested in sustainability issues. One of the students, from Indonesia, did a collection made up of garments that were made specifically to be adjustable, because she wanted to address the habit we tend to have of throwing clothes out and buying new ones when we lose or gain weight. So, she created this collection where the garments can be expanded or retracted [according to the fluctuations of the body]. Priorities are shifting and evolving.&rdquo;
