Through a complex and varied interplay between Kyoto and Osaka, the KENZO Fall/Winter 2023 campaign honors the cross-cultural discourse that lies at its foundation. It portrays a blend of an Eastern and Western cast, set in a variety of locations that mirror the diverse characteristics of two cities: Osaka, a cultural amalgamation renowned for its lively street culture and subterranean youth vibrancy; and Kyoto, steeped in history, where the essence of heritage combines with a concealed music scene driven by the youth.&nbsp;

Immortalised through photographs taken on-site by Keizo Kitajima and in motion pictures by Frank Lebon, the campaign mirrors the cosmopolitan vibe that defines Nigo's creative approach at KENZO, juxtaposed against the divergent elements of his home, Japan. The fusion of Osaka and Kyoto underpins the diverse concept of the Fall/Winter 2023 Collection. Consisting of clothing that spans different cultures, periods, and aesthetics, it represents a fusion where the streets of Japan, America, and England converge, echoing the spirit of the youth revolution during the iconic Swinging Sixties.&nbsp;

In the campaign, the structure broadens to encompass an exploration of the contemporary youth cultures found in the two Japanese urban centres. A stylistic fusion of traditional and modern garment constructions, as well as a blending of wardrobe components from both the East and West, embody the self-expression of the contemporary youth in Japan. &nbsp;The campaign features&nbsp; a fresh face for KENZO, VERNON, a member of Seventeen, along with a brief appearance by Nigo, the founder himself.

In his street portraits, Keizo Kitajima, the Japanese photographer, orchestrates a sequence of ordinary interactions between city dwellers and the surroundings they inhabit. The idea is mirrored in dynamic visuals captured by British photographer Frank Lebon, featuring Dreamer by Urban Dance from 1985. The composition was created by Shinobu Narita, accompanied by lyrics written by Minako Yoshida. In the film, there's a sequence depicting Nigo engaged in a game of shogi at the Shosei-en in Kyoto, adorned in the collection's iconic broken-striped Dazzle motif, influenced by Kenzo Takada's archival designs from the 1980s.

The Osaka segment of the campaign was shot at Jan Jan Yokocho, New Star Game Centre, Tai Yoshi Hyakuban, Universe Yokocho, Shinsekai, Amerikamura Mitsutera Kaikan, Kinryu Ramen, and Namba Bears. While the Kyoto locations was set against the Bamboo Forest of Daikakuji, the Kamo River, the Seiryuden Observation Deck, and Shosei-en.
