Olivia Rodrigo’s outfits pass through spring for The Unraveled Tour

Contrary to the grungy influences she dabbled into for her previous tour, her current wardrobe for “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” explores a softer side of her music. From Drop Dead’s lingerie-esque bloomers and babydoll silhouettes, this marked the beginning of a daintier era for the singer, shifting from the alternative curation she had going on.
For this album, her outfits embody the season of spring, encompassing the whole journey of a new relationship’s blossoming up until the more somber moments of navigating her way out of romances that don’t serve her anymore.
Olivia’s ensemble is a strong opening for the show, capturing the whole concept of ‘A Girl So in Love.’ The babydoll dress is appointed with layers and layers of lace and ruffles, with puff sleeves dating back to the Victorian detailing her style has been pivoting on. With white bloomers peeking through the delicate trims of lace in her underskirt, she channels the playfulness all girls jump around to in this first act.

She brings us on a short trip down memory lane with the graphic tank and vibrant hot pink shorts, a look nostalgic of her previous Guts Tour. The shift into the edgier attire signaled the change in her songs lined up, with more rebellious acts like “My Way” and “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl.” She does decide to keep this more subtle though with understated fishnets and a pair of sneakers, as compared to her usual styling with the large holed tights and combat boots.

This look touches on the most emotional melodies of the night, restraining all of her most heart-wrenching feelings into a deep purple leather dress. The skater skirt silhouette with the recurring puff sleeve theme fills in the femininity without straying too far from the darker sorrow she moves into, entering the autumn portion of the show. Pairing the garment with the black choker and boots complemented the electric guitar solo she does for “Cigarette Smoke” as she channels the inner rockstar in herself.

The Cure takes the cake for the performance of the night with Olivia wearing an ensemble developed particularly for the single. Collaborating with designer Hussein Chalayan, the dress references his Spring 2016 Collection, one of his most notable works up to date, with his infamous water-soluble dresses that revealed an inner layer of Swarovski-embellished pieces over the ephemeral piece of performance art. Olivia’s rendition features a simplistic white collared dress literally unraveling off her skin as it downpours on her body, completely exposing the red corset and miniskirt underneath.

Still dripping from her previous look, we see her change into her encore outfit before running on stage wearing her plain white tank top and straight denim jeans. The relaxed fit does not take away from the energy of the crowd and the singer herself as she performs some of her most loved tracks “Deja Vu” and “All-American Bitch.” Even in the effortless, off-duty look, Rodrigo knows how to pump up the stage and still bring excitement to the audience after hours for one last hurrah before closing the show in high spirits.
