Aptly named, Vente-Singko celebrates the designer Dodjie Batu's 25th anniversary in the fashion industry.

Vente-Singko, an aptly named collection meant to mark designer Dodjie Batu's 25th year in the industry, is composed of unexpected patterns, color treatments, puffed sleeves, holiday headwear, soft yet precise tailoring, and Hepburn-inspired headscarves. In trying times, the pandemic has provided designers and creatives alike with a space to explore new methods. Each garment within Vente-Singko is a reflection of this creativity, deeply imbued with era-transcending vibrancy.

Here,&nbsp;L'Officiel Philippines&nbsp;pauses to chat with Batu about reimagining fashion, drawing inspiration from classic films, and how his collections have evolved as a reflection of the times.&nbsp; On the various materials used in the Vente-Singko collection&nbsp;
"I always love to incorporate prints in my collection. I see the paisley pattern to be gender-neutral; that is why I use it for both menswear and womenswear. I believe that the pattern has transcended time."&nbsp;

On the creative inspiration
"I usually get my inspiration from my travels. But, then again, the pandemic happened and we are now forced to stay home. So, [this time], I got my inspiration from movies, especially the classics. I know that fashion always comes back full circle and we [always] pay homage to images from the past."

On challenging industry conventions and referencing Audrey Hepburn 
"I always think of my previous collections for both men and women to be more closely fitted to the body. For my 25th year in the business, I opted for designs that are more relaxed and comfortable, hence these silhouettes. What remains, though, is the fluidity and movement of my garments while the person is in motion. That is my challenge: to be sexy, but with a relaxed silhouette. I noticed that you got my reference from watching Audrey Hepburn's movies, like Charade. I felt that the headscarves with the big sunglasses completed the look."

On Vente-Singko's optimistic color palette&nbsp;
"I had [originally] planned for my 25th anniversary collection to go with a silver or gray color palette. But, the perky side of me couldn't just stick with a "boring" gray palette, so I injected some orange in burnt and deep hues. Other colors like brown, maroon, and yellow were added to complement the prints and materials &mdash; just to help the look pop."

On evoking a response from wearers and viewers&nbsp;
"I would like them to feel the warmth that the colors convey. I would also like them to appreciate the work [put into] the collection during these trying times. Since our work area was limited because of all the protocols, we had to be more creative in creating our garments."
