Our national hero&rsquo;s classic novel becomes the inspiration for unconventional menswear.

The Bench Fashion Week SS23 Day 2 show succeeded in showcasing an array of Filipino fashion designers including Bon Hansen. With another season set with BENCH, the award-winning designer has something special up his sleeve. The Spring/Summer collection, Simoun, struts Hansen&rsquo;s fresh vision for unconventional menswear &ndash; merging his signature tailoring with new silhouettes.

&ldquo;The collection symbolizes the height and end of Simoun's life, exploring his strong rebel character dated in a modern context,&rdquo; Bon Hansen says. &ldquo;I wanted to remind everyone never to submit to societal standards.&rdquo;

Working on the collection for a month, Bon Hansen produced pieces that challenged the norms of local menswear. His show started with unconventional creations &ndash; an aubergine suit with its sharp shawl collar, a plaid ensemble paired with a structured bib, and a pinstripe maxi dress with flounce detail under a classic suit. Through the collection, Bon Hansen encourages expression by blurring gender lines in the Filipino fashion scene.&nbsp;
