The evolution of Philippine jewelry is anything but linear, traceable from the intricately woven pre-colonial gold found in Mindanao riverbeds, the fine silver alfajor and tamborine pendants mirroring the religiosity of the tumultous Spanish Colonial era, and all the way to today's modern, minimalist pieces reflecting contemporary tastes.

Young jeweler Adam Pereyra collaborates with master goldsmith Ely Arcilla Jr. (better known as Oslog) to create, for example, a stunning centipede choker and bracelet demiparure in pure 18-karat gold, a testament to the importance of preserving the workmanship of our earliest ancestors. Maria Angelica "Gigi" Bermejo, an accomplished designer and dedicated preservationist of national treasures for nearly 40 years, also features in this story, showcasing her vast collection of precious, centuries-old finds sourced from all over the Philippines. Rising brand Amami was born out of a burning desire to create livelihood opportunities for skilled Filipino craftsmen, whose mastery of the techniques perfected by our forefathers is priceless. And, hailing from a family of jewelers, Steph Ayson of Pranca creates intruiging, sculptural designs that are simultaneously irregular and classic: modern-day heirlooms.
