Cue the music and the lights! The rhythm of musical theater is alive as Theatre Group Asia finally brings Broadway&rsquo;s iconic &ldquo;A Chorus Line&rdquo; show live at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati. Running from March 12 to March 29, 2026 for 18 shows, this Theatre Group Asia staging marks a huge milestone for Filipino musical theater as it brings together internationally acclaimed talents with an extraordinary Filipino-American ensemble.

Marking more than five decades since its debut, A Chorus Line puts the spotlight on the stories of performers striving for a coveted spot in a Broadway chorus, celebrating the passion, discipline, and artistry of the ensemble. This Broadway classic is also among the select few to have earned the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Drama alongside multiple Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction, and Best Choreography.
What truly makes this staging extra special is the Filipino charm coming from its all-Filipino cast and production. Emmy Award-winner&nbsp;Karla Puno Garcia stood as the show&rsquo;s director and choreographer, while leading the cast are Tony Award nominee and two-time Grammy Award nominee Conrad Ricamora as Zach and Filipino-American Broadway triple threat Lissa DeGuzman as Cassie.

At the media brief ahead of the show, Lissa shared her experience towards getting into the role of Cassie. Sharing with L&rsquo;Officiel Philippines, &ldquo;I started off in this industry in the ensemble as a swing, understudying, and then I was lucky enough to go off and play principal roles on Broadway and pursue stardom, for lack of a better phrase. And now I have this amazing opportunity to return to the line as they say in this show. And so my story very much aligns with Cassie's.&rdquo;
She also shared her enthusiasm working with the cast, highlighting the brilliance of Filipino talent. She expressed, &ldquo;It's very special being here in the Philippines. I've never been a part of a full Filipino cast so to be a part of an ensemble and be a part of an ensemble that is all-Filipino is really giving me a place to fit in. And so it's very special to be here, to be in an ensemble again and to be a part of an ensemble that's all Filipino and to be returning to the line after pursuing stardom and not putting myself in any sort of box where I have to either choose principal roles or choose an ensemble. I can do both.&rdquo;

Completing the cast took a global route with an extensive search spanning New York and key Philippine cities, which then culminated in an intensive bootcamp in Manila under Karla Puno Garcia&rsquo;s direction. Joining the ensemble are Christina Glur as Diana Morales, Michaela Marfori as Bebe Benzenheimer, Angelo Soriano as Mike Costa, Jordan Andrews as Al DeLuca, Mikaela Regis as Sheila Bryant, Ken San Jose as Mark Anthony, Rapah Manalo as Richie Walters, Lord Kristofer Logmao as Frank, Iya Villanueva as Maggie Winslow, Universe Ramos as Paul San Marco, Brie Chappell as Val Clark, Julio Laforteza as Don Kerr, Sam Libao as Kristine Urich, Stephen Vi&ntilde;as as Bobby Mills, Richardson Yadao as Larry, Jessica Carmona as Connie Wong, Alyanna Wijangco as Judy Turner, and Luca Olbes as Greg Gardner.

At the show&rsquo;s grand gala premiere, the production immediately set a high bar, opening to a full house and earning enthusiastic applause for its sharp choreography, tight ensemble work, and emotionally charged performances.&nbsp;
The cast&rsquo;s chemistry onstage was evident from the first number. As soon as the curtains opened, the whole cast set the stage with an energy that felt electric and completely hypnotizing, instantly commanding the audience&rsquo;s attention. With Karla Puno Garcia&rsquo;s direction, each routine felt intentional and tightly executed yet never rigid, allowing the performers&rsquo; personalities to come through even in the most complex sequences, The musical numbers were a delight to watch as the spotlight moved from one cast to the next, accompanied by the ensemble&rsquo;s live musicality that truly kept the show&rsquo;s momentum flowing without a single dull moment.&nbsp;
Each entrance also felt intentional, as it gave every cast their chance to shine while still keeping the ensemble perfectly in sync. And while the full cast performances painted so much vibrance to the production, the quieter moments also drew in the little details, giving the story enough space to breathe and making the emotional beats land even harder. It&rsquo;s also impossible not to notice the distinctly Filipino talent and charm that infused the entire performance, shining through in the lines and expressions portrayed by the cast, giving the show a warmth and heart uniquely its own. By the end of the night, the production proved itself to be not only technically impressive, but also deeply engaging, which led to a well-deserved standing ovation.
It&rsquo;s not everyday that you get to see a production of a Broadway classic be brought to life so vibrantly by Filipino talent, and this production delivers on every level, capturing the energy and heart that make the show unforgettable.
