The legacy of Arita finds new expression on the dial of this latest Presage Classic Series entry.

The small town of Arita on Kyushu Island is renowned for being the birthplace of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/living/l-officiel-coffee-in-japan-tokyo-magazine-cafe-food-drinks-travel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Japanese</a>&nbsp;ceramics. Dating back almost 400 years, the tradition of Arita-yaki (<a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/beauty/recreate-porcelain-doll-glass-skin-makeup-look-maison-margiela-haute-couture-pat-mcgrath-beauty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">porcelain</a>&nbsp;ware made in the location) remains a symbol of Japanese craft and refinement, originally produced exclusively for Japanese&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/fashion/history-of-royals-and-fashion-princess-diana-gucci-princess-grace-kelly-hermes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">royalty</a>. What makes Arita porcelain so esteemed and covetable is its pure whiteness, which is delicately translucent and beautifully luxurious.

That prized material found its way to the&nbsp;<a href="https://seikoboutique.com.sg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Seiko</a>&nbsp;Presage Classic Series, a line that preserves and showcases traditional Japanese artisanal craftwork with dials made of Shippo enamel, urushi lacquer and now, Arita porcelain. The first Arita porcelain dials were typically glazed to achieve the smooth lustre of traditional Artita-yaki. But the latest 2025 expression omits the high-gloss finish; unglazed, the dial&rsquo;s matte surface exudes a warm white hue and soft natural texture, almost like eggshell. This treatment allows three-dimensional patterns to stand out, as seen in the geometric hishi (rhombus) ridges surrounding the dial.

Each unglazed dial is created under the supervision of master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi (who is affiliated with an established Arita kiln), undergoing precisely controlled casting and firing processes that leave no room for error. The porcelain material used is also more than four times stronger than conventional Arita porcelain, to withstand the rigours required of a watch dial. The result is a creation of quiet strength and dignity &mdash; unfussy, meticulously considered, and unmistakably Japanese. Gold-coloured hands and indexes bring a hint of glint to the muted appearance, as does the stainless steel case with super-hard coating. A supple black leather strap completes the elegant look. Inside, the watch is powered by the capable Calibre 6R51.
