From printed houndstooth to reworked couture motifs, Jonathan Anderson continues to reshape the Dior archive.

Jonathan Anderson opened his latest Dior show the way every good house party begins: someone plugged their phone into the aux. And suddenly, Fred Again took over. The show’s venue—the Musée Nissim de Camondo—is currently closed for restoration.It’s a fitting setting if you consider where Dior finds itself today. The museum walls are chipped with the plaster exposed. Anderson has inherited one of fashion's richest archives, but he's never behaved like someone dusting off antiques. Every season feels more like he's rearranging the furniture.

You can see it in the details. The houndstooth used was printed instead of woven. While an embroidered silk shirt borrowed a 1979 Dior haute couture motif through trompe l'œil. 19th-century embroidery even resurfaced on suede derbies.You kept recognizing things before realizing they had become something else. Anderson has spoken about seeing rave culture return around London, about young people dressing up again simply because going out feels worth dressing up for. The same energy was in the clothes.A pleated tuxedo shirt was paired with stone-washed shorts. Frayed denim jackets wandered into eveningwear territory. Roomy suits shared the runway with sequined trousers and metallic boots. One look suggested an aristocrat who never made it to bed. Another looked like someone who found a nineteenth-century wardrobe at a flea market and decided it deserved another night out.

The biggest difference between this collection and Anderson's debut was that nothing felt forced. 12 months ago, there was an understandable sense of introduction. Every silhouette, every historical reference, every experiment seemed to arrive with some sort of expectation. Things were lighter this time around.Anderson says he's still configuring the Dior man, and maybe that's exactly what makes him interesting right now.
