A powerful new chapter begins at Balenciaga.

Balenciaga has named Pierpaolo Piccioli as its next creative director, marking one of the most anticipated appointments in fashion&rsquo;s ongoing game of musical chairs. Piccioli, who spent 25 years at Valentino and redefined modern couture with poetic romanticism and emotional storytelling, will begin his new role on July 10, 2025.
&ldquo;Balenciaga is what it is today thanks to all the people who have paved the way,&rdquo; Piccioli said in a statement. &ldquo;What I am receiving is a brand full of possibilities that is incredibly fascinating. I must first and foremost thank Demna; I&rsquo;ve always admired his talent and vision.&rdquo;
While Demna&rsquo;s influence on the house was nothing short of seismic&mdash;blending luxury with streetwear, turning memes into runway moments&mdash;Piccioli&rsquo;s entry signals a different kind of artistry. Known for elevating emotion, elegance, and the human touch in fashion, Piccioli&rsquo;s arrival could mean a shift toward a more refined, deeply expressive Balenciaga.
&ldquo;I couldn&rsquo;t ask for a better passing of the torch,&rdquo; Piccioli added. &ldquo;This gives me the chance to shape a new version of the maison, adding another chapter with a new story.&rdquo;
&ldquo;I couldn&rsquo;t be happier to welcome Pierpaolo to the Group,&rdquo; said Francesca Bellettini, Kering&rsquo;s Deputy CEO in charge of Brand Development. &ldquo;His mastery of Haute Couture, his creative voice, and his passion for savoir-faire made him the ideal choice for the House.&rdquo;
Balenciaga CEO Gianfranco Gianangeli echoed the sentiment: &ldquo;His creative vision will thrive, and he will perfectly interpret the legacy of Crist&oacute;bal Balenciaga, building on the House&rsquo;s bold creativity, rich heritage, and strong culture.&rdquo;
The industry has been closely watching Balenciaga&rsquo;s next move. As brands undergo dramatic reshuffles and aesthetic recalibrations, Piccioli&rsquo;s appointment is more than a simple succession. It&rsquo;s the beginning of what could be a defining new chapter for one of fashion&rsquo;s most influential maisons.
