In Florence, a young woman walks alone &mdash; unaccompanied yet unbothered &mdash; across a crowded piazza lined with male scrutiny. This scenario is captured through the lens of Ruth Orkin, later becoming the now-iconic American Girl In Italy &mdash; an image that came to symbolize a new kind of femininity: confident and independent.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, in Reggio Emilia, Achille Maramotti is threading the first stitches of a vision that would later become Max Mara &mdash; a brand dedicated to dressing the very same woman who walks with confidence, thinks with clarity, and takes up space wherever she goes. It&rsquo;s for the working women who he believes would quietly lead global change. Seventy-five years later, these stories converge through Max Mara&rsquo;s Resort 2026 collection.&nbsp;

Framed by gilded walls and marbled grandeur, the collection unfolded down the theatrical stairs of La Reggia di Caserta &mdash; one of Italy&rsquo;s grandest Baroque palaces where monarchies used to reign. More than just a runway show, it&rsquo;s a reverent homage to Italian heritage and femininity, with models descending like real-life heroines in a neorealist film.&nbsp;
Imagined by creative director Ian Griffiths, the collection draws inspiration from the Italian leading ladies, like Silvana Mangano in Riso Amaro, Sophia Loren in L&rsquo;Oro di Napoli, and the archetypal bella donna, who moved effortlessly between beachside villas and political summits. This season&rsquo;s silhouettes danced gracefully between masculine tailoring and feminine mystique &mdash; striking a balance between structure and sensuality.

Tailored suits, defined waist, and architectural lines grounded the collection with quiet strength, tempered by the allure of the off-the-shoulder tops, cuffed shorts, and embellished evening wear. These interplay of contrasts created a line that goes through the day &mdash; from the timeless coats worn in the boardroom to the elegant dresses captivating the ballroom.&nbsp;

The collection&rsquo;s palette is refined yet rich, anchored in deliberate neutrals, soft blues and barely-there blushes &mdash; placing focus on the shape and movement of its luxurious fabrics. It now comes in four iterations in various sizes and fabrications &mdash; one of which has a woven raffia body, trimmed with chic leather detailing. But the true standout from the show was Max Mara&rsquo;s collaboration with E. Marinella &mdash; the revered Neapolitan tiemaker &mdash; as they revived cravatte prints from 1951, and reimagined them into silken pyjamas and embroidered in cashmere sweaters.

In front of the modern-day muses, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Alexa Chung, Nicky Hilton, and Joey King, Max Mara reaffirms its legacy through this collection &mdash; continuing to honor the quiet power of women who have always led with elegance and purpose.
