For the first anniversary of her atelier, Maria Gan introduces Sumpa, A Bridal Ode to Sampaguita, an eight-piece collection shaped by softness, restraint, and quiet, enduring love.

A year can change quite a few things.
For Maria Gan, it has changed the way she approaches her own designs.
Exactly one year after opening the doors to her atelier, the Filipino designer marked its first anniversary. But the occasion also came with something new.
Sumpa, A Bridal Ode to Sampaguita is her latest bridal collection, continuing her dedication to bridalwear. Maria describes it as more intimate and intentional than her previous collections.
The collection arrives as Maria reflects on what she has learned over the past year.

“I’ve learned to trust my intuition more in the past year,” she says. “I realized over time that there is strength in creating intentional and personal pieces. I’ve also learned that patience and adaptability are just as important as creativity.”
For Sumpa, the focus turns to softness, restraint, and symbolism, drawing inspiration from the sampaguita as a representation of quiet, enduring love.
<h4 dir="ltr">A Bridal Collection With More Than One Kind of Bride in Mind</h4>
There are eight pieces in Sumpa, but they are not all meant for the same moment.

Alon, with its tiered and flowy silhouette, can work as a pre-wedding look. Giliw can be worn as either a wedding prep look or a welcome dinner dress, while Mutya and Sinta offer a take on bridal separates for the unconventional bride.

Then there is Tala, which can be worn for a reception or beach wedding. Hiraya and Wagas, meanwhile, are Maria's take on the classic bride without compromising her cosmopolitan approach.
And the piece that gives the collection its name comes with something a little more personal.

Sumpa features an overlay that can be personalized with a hand-embroidered message.
For Maria, every detail in the collection serves a purpose.
“Sumpa as a collection reflects a deeper understanding of my design voice,” she says. “There’s more confidence in simplicity and less need to over-design. Every detail serves a purpose, and there’s a stronger emotional narrative behind each piece.”
<h4 dir="ltr">One Year Inside the Atelier</h4>
Over its first year, the atelier has seen brides, debutantes, bridesmaids, and other women pass through its doors, while its floor-to-ceiling windows have framed an ever-changing display of dresses and gowns.

For the anniversary, the space brought together members of the press, influencers, and industry creatives for an intimate celebration and preview of Sumpa.
Maria says the year helped establish a clearer identity for the atelier and create a center for a growing community around its vision.
“We hope to continue growing the atelier while staying true to our identity—expanding thoughtfully, exploring new techniques, and collaborating with like-minded creatives,” Maria says. “Ultimately, the goal is to keep creating meaningful pieces that become part of our clients’ most important moments.”
