The collection that made waves in the 2000s is back and set to capture a whole new generation of Louis Vuitton x Murakami fans.

Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami reunite to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their game-changing collaboration. What began as a daring reinterpretation of the iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram has evolved into a playful celebration of art and the joy of fashion. &ldquo;I worked with Louis Vuitton 20 years ago, and I've done many collaborations since then, but I've always felt that the Louis Vuitton team work the hardest and have the most concentration and the highest quality,&rdquo; Murakami shares in an interview with the House. &ldquo;Whenever I try to do something similar to Louis Vuitton at my own studio, I really realize how hard it is, so I think every aspect of Louis Vuitton, from PR to communications to the ateliers, is truly amazing.&rdquo;

The new collection, Louis Vuitton x Murakami, reimagines the duo&rsquo;s most iconic designs in two significant drops: Chapter One and Chapter Two. Each launch featuring a fresh but wistful take on these unforgettable pieces that have been specifically created for the modern fashionmonger.
The star of the first release is undeniably the Monogram Multicolore, the most recognizable motif from the original collaboration. With a kaleidoscope of 33 vibrant colors, the pattern adorns a dazzling range of Louis Vuitton&rsquo;s signature styles, including the Speedy, Dauphine, and OnTheGo. Whether against a crisp white canvas or a sultry black setting, the refreshed Multicolore motif is more vibrant than ever, thanks to advanced digital printing techniques.
Murakami&rsquo;s iconic characters also make a cheeky return. &ldquo;The characters we chose this time are Superflat. When [former Louis Vuitton Artistic Director] Marc [Jacobs] first requested for my work, he told me "I don't need any characters. I just want for you to change the emblem." But midway through, Marc himself drew a sketch, and he copied a panda that appeared in my work and sent it to me. That's how my own characters emerged inside of Louis Vuitton, which is why these iconic characters are being revived this time.&rdquo; Thus the Superflat Panda, a fan-favorite, pops up on everything from handbags to skateboards, keyrings, and even perfume bottles. Meanwhile, the Superflat Garden&rsquo;s cheerful smiley flowers add a touch of whimsy to the House&rsquo;s Attrape-R&ecirc;ves and Imagination fragrances.

&ldquo;Looking back now, I really feel there were various significances, but at the time I had no idea what kind of brand Louis Vuitton really was, and I didn't understand the impact of it changing the products&rsquo; classic base color to pure white, for instance. But now, I can see that it changing from something purely chic into something colorful really made a big impact,&rdquo; Murakami shares.
