Get to know the backstage beauty and fashion tips and tricks of L&rsquo;Officiel Philippines&rsquo; September 2022 cover muses.

Glitz and glamor are what many people envision when they think about models. But apart from being in front of the camera and posing with expression, models have their fair share of essential beauty and fashion techniques that they learned while being on set. In an interview with L&rsquo;Officiel Philippines September 2022 issue&rsquo;s cover stars, international models Jella Joy, Jach Manere, Bethany Talbot, and Siobhan Moylan school us on how to incorporate the beauty and fashion secrets they learned on the job.

What&rsquo;s your name and how old are you? Apart from modeling, what do you enjoy doing?
JELLA: Hi! I&rsquo;m Jella Joy. I&rsquo;m 18 years old and I started modeling just three and a half years ago. So, it&rsquo;s been a journey. I&rsquo;ve been into sports lately. I joined my school&rsquo;s volleyball club.
JACH: I&rsquo;m Jach Manere and I&rsquo;m 25 years old. Apart from modeling, I&rsquo;m really into music. I&rsquo;m actually a music student. During my free time, I have a lot of things to do like hobbies. I like to paint sometimes and cross stitch and watch anime.
BETHANY: I&rsquo;m Bethany Talbot and I&rsquo;m 20 years old. Currently, I&rsquo;m a college student studying BS Mathematics and, at the same time, I&rsquo;m part of the football varsity of my school. &nbsp;
SIOBHAN: I&rsquo;m Siobhan. I&rsquo;m 24. I like to paint. I&rsquo;m also into ceramics. I used to be really into making alien sculptures out of clay.

Being in front of the cameras a lot, I&rsquo;m sure, means that you take good care of your skin.&nbsp;What is your go-to skincare product that is on heavy rotation before each shoot or&nbsp;runway day?
JELLA: I&rsquo;ve been using C&eacute;leteque a lot lately and I think it&rsquo;s a better match for my skin compared to the other products I&rsquo;ve used because it&rsquo;s water-based. I have quite sensitive skin. It works really well for me.
JACH: Before shoots, I have to get a good rest for sure. Nothing beats good rest. No product will help you if you don't have good rest. For shoots, I like to moisturize and put under eye creams just to prep it before each shoot. For moisturizers, I like to use Kiehl&rsquo;s. They have really nice moisturizers, like Calendula. They have nice eye creams too. Sometimes, I use the Huxley moisturizer and serum. That one I reserve for important shoots.&nbsp;
BETHANY: I always used to have a complex skincare routine. Recently, I simplified it. The one product I make sure to put on is sunblock or sunscreen. I&rsquo;m using the Biore and it&rsquo;s really good.
SIOBHAN: My go-to right now is the Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm. It&rsquo;s the best cleanser I&rsquo;ve tried ever. I&rsquo;m already on my third bottle, and I don&rsquo;t think I&rsquo;m gonna change any time soon.

Speaking of being in front of cameras, let&rsquo;s talk more about what goes on behind the&nbsp;camera. I&rsquo;m sure you have learned a lot while backstage during shoots, runways, and&nbsp;the like. So, what is the best technique you&rsquo;ve picked up from makeup artists? How did&nbsp;you make this technique your own while incorporating it into your beauty routine?
JELLA: I didn&rsquo;t moisturize my face a lot before. Then, I learned from makeup artists to always prep your face so that the makeup sets well while you&rsquo;re at it. That&rsquo;s one of the techniques I learned from them.
JACH: I ask a lot. I&rsquo;m not a pro at makeup and skincare. When we&rsquo;re doing makeup, I ask a lot because it&rsquo;s hard to match your skin tone. I always have a hard time finding the shade for my skin tone. I ask them how to mix. And, how to do eyeliner. I don&rsquo;t have a steady hand. I ask them how to do eyeliner&ndash;especially for my eye shape. When I buy my shade, I&rsquo;m a bit darker by that time because I go to the beach. When I ask them how to color match, you have to mix a darker shade and a lighter shade. You mix two foundations and swatch them on your jaw or the cheek. Just try and try again. Trial and error&ndash;with two different shades. Also, if it&rsquo;s cool-toned or warm-toned.
BETHANY: Before, I thought I did my makeup pretty okay. But working with a lot of makeup artists, I&rsquo;d see what I liked. I found different techniques with bronzer and contours. I never used to do that. But bronzer and contours add so much to the face. So, that&rsquo;s what I&rsquo;ve been doing. It changes your face a lot.
SIOBHAN: Probably prepping the skin is the most important thing I&rsquo;ve learned. It makes the makeup look amazing. Now, whenever I do my makeup, I put on a lot of moisturizers as much as I can without looking oily because it makes my foundation look better.

When it comes to applying makeup, what is a step you never, ever skip? It could be&nbsp;priming, moisturizing, even brows, or blush &ndash; what is your necessary step?
JELLA: I think brows since I don&rsquo;t have any! It&rsquo;s super important. Right now, I&rsquo;ve been using the Benefit brow pencil. It&rsquo;s really nice and I like it!
JACH: Concealer. I can go on with concealer, and that&rsquo;s it! Concealer and powder&ndash;those are my staples. Sometimes, I&rsquo;ll go out with concealer under my eye, then I&rsquo;ll just pat powder. Then, I&rsquo;m good to go!
BETHANY: I&rsquo;d say my top two are blush and lashes. I think it can just make you look fresh and awake.
SIOBHAN: I think right now it&rsquo;s blush. I&rsquo;ve been trying a different blush every day. I&rsquo;ve been liking that flushed look&ndash;especially during the summer.

Social media&rsquo;s been playing such a vital role in making trends mainstream. What is/are&nbsp;your current favorite makeup, beauty, or even fashion trend that you&rsquo;ve seen pop up on&nbsp;social media feeds?
JELLA: I think I&rsquo;m really into Y2K these days. It&rsquo;s a really cool style to see!
JACH: I like the trend, but I can&rsquo;t do the trend because I&rsquo;m not a makeup pro. I really like the Euphoria trend recently. I like to see people being creative and going out and exploring with beads on their faces. I see fashion everywhere. You&rsquo;ll just see me with a bunch of stones on my face.&nbsp;
BETHANY: I&rsquo;d say for fashion trends, I was never really a shoe person when it came to my outfits. I never really thought of shoes. But recently, especially on TikTok, I see a lot of girls wearing platform heels. I&rsquo;ve bought a few recently and have been definitely adding that to what I wear. Cute heels, chunky shoes.&nbsp;
SIOBHAN: My favorite trend right now is the siren eyes. Every time I go out, that&rsquo;s what I do. Just black eyeliner and make it into a cat eye.

Fashion is undoubtedly such a huge part of modeling and in any creative field. With that&nbsp;being said, who are the fashion inspirations you think of when picking out what&nbsp;to wear daily?
JELLA: Kendall Jenner since she&rsquo;s such a fashionista. Her outfits are simple but when she wears them, it&rsquo;s like a whole new level of clothing.
JACH: I like Bella Hadid all the time. She pulls it off so well. And, I&rsquo;d like to pull it off too. Sometimes, she mixes and matches and it looks so good on her. Every time, she&rsquo;s a fashion icon.
BETHANY: I generally just go on Pinterest. In terms of style, I like Princess Diana. How she looks so sophisticated and classy, but she can also turn it sexy and cute. How she carries herself with her outfits.&nbsp;
SIOBHAN: Bella Hadid 100%. I like how she wears vintage clothing. I&rsquo;ve actually been buying vintage clothing. I stole that from her. Especially when I was in London, there were so many vintage stores. It&rsquo;s like people only wear vintage there nowadays. No one&rsquo;s buying from retail stores. It&rsquo;s all vintage. You can find pieces that are really unique.

When you choose an outfit, what&rsquo;s the accessory or piece of clothing you want people to&nbsp;know you by?
JELLA: I think I always like wearing tank tops. So, I&rsquo;d say a simple black tank top.&nbsp;
JACH: Maybe shades. I like to wear shades. I would never go out without shades. I like to look like I&rsquo;m mysterious.
BETHANY: I&rsquo;d say baggy pants. I&rsquo;m definitely a baggy pants type of girl. I usually think of my outfits with that being the base of it.&nbsp;
SIOBHAN: I&rsquo;m always wearing a crop top. I&rsquo;m always showing skin. I don&rsquo;t like being covered up. Even when I was a teenager, I&rsquo;ve always been like that. I feel the most comfortable showing skin.

Colors are everything and everything. Talk to me about the colors and shades you gravitate toward (either with makeup or clothes).
JELLA: I actually like a peachy pink makeup look on my face because it really brightens up and lifts up my face. I like gravitating toward bright colors and also neutrals.&nbsp;
JACH: Of course, I like to wear neutrals because it&rsquo;s really easy to wear neutrals. But, if I have a statement piece, I like to wear it too. On a daily basis, neutrals are the easiest choice. I have a lot of blacks as well.&nbsp;
BETHANY: For makeup, I like a really sunkissed, bronze-y kind of look. As for clothes, I like very colorful clothes&ndash;very pop-ish colors. Maybe a neutral set of pants and something bright on top.
SIOBHAN: Usually nudes. I like keeping it neutral. On my lid, I usually wear a bronzer. In terms of outfits, I always gravitate towards black. Always.

You&rsquo;ve worked and continue to work with stylists and fashion personalities. What&rsquo;s one&nbsp;piece of advice a stylist or designer has given that changed the way you pick what to&nbsp;wear?
JELLA: Never mix neutrals with bright colors. I used to do that before. But, neutrals stay neutrals; neons stay neons.&nbsp;
JACH: Working with shapes. The balance of the outfits. One stylist taught me about the &frac34; rule. It shouldn;t be &frac12;. The top needs to be shorter and the bottom needs to be longer. It balances out and makes you look longer.&nbsp;
BETHANY: I think it&rsquo;s definitely looking towards your body shape. Out of everything, I learned what&rsquo;s most important is if it actually fits you right. It made a big difference in looking good. You&rsquo;ve styled yourself well if you get good-fitting clothes.
SIOBHAN: It&rsquo;s mostly style. It depends on the occasion. If it&rsquo;s an everyday thing or if I&rsquo;m going to a shoot, it&rsquo;s about 100% comfort. I used to wear a lot of gold jewelry. But a stylist told me since I&rsquo;m pale, I should be wearing a lot of silver jewelry. Now, I&rsquo;m only wearing silver jewelry.

Honest question: what is one fashion or beauty rule you love to break? (For me, I love&nbsp;wearing prints on print, and even mixing silver jewelry with gold accessories).
JELLA: Wearing different shades of white together.
JACH: Break the stereotype! I guess, my hair. With my work, it&rsquo;s really important to have long hair so you can work well with girly stuff. So, sometimes I like to be manly and androgynous sometimes&ndash;switching between both worlds. I&rsquo;m tall and have short hair.&nbsp;
BETHANY: Probably for makeup, you&rsquo;re not supposed to put liquid or cream over powder. But, I do that a lot. If I need to conceal something, I will pack it on and not care about it looking cakey. I do that a lot.&nbsp;
SIOBHAN: I like to mix prints and colors you wouldn&rsquo;t think would go together. I like wearing multiple pieces of jewelry at one time. I&rsquo;ll wear a gold ring and a silver ring on the same hand.

Hair is also an element in styling that is so important. What hair care products do you&nbsp;have on your bathroom shelves that cater to your specific hair types?
JELLA: Since my natural hair is curly and oily, I always apply shea butter, oils, and conditioner. Always taking care of those coils, because having African hair is super hard.&nbsp;
JACH: Because I have short hair, it&rsquo;s usually just wash and wear. That&rsquo;s why I cut my hair. The only product I put is the Bed Head by TIGI mousse. I put it on to keep the curls managed.&nbsp;
BETHANY: I actually don&rsquo;t have a lot of after-shower hair care products. But for my shower routine, I&rsquo;m such a Dove girl. Dove shampoo and conditioner&ndash;and that&rsquo;s it.
SIOBHAN: Gisou hair oil. It&rsquo;s made out of beeswax. I got it in London. It literally changed my hair.&nbsp;

What&rsquo;s your signature scent or fragrance?
JELLA: I actually like a tangerine smell. I like the Versace perfume.
JACH: Le Labo Santal. I love earthy scents. I&rsquo;m not really a fan of flowery and sweet scents. I like musky and woody fragrances.&nbsp;
BETHANY: I definitely switch it up depending on what I&rsquo;m attending. I really like strong scents&ndash;on the borderline of it being masculine. I&rsquo;m not really into cute, vanilla, floral scents. I like a good strong, almost masculine scent.&nbsp;
SIOBHAN: My favorite perfume right now is Margiela&rsquo;s REPLICA collection.

In three words, describe your sense of style.
JELLA: Simple, casual, and chill.
JACH: Boss ass bitch.
BETHANY: Comfortable, bright, and fitting.
SIOBHAN: Black, sexy, and cool.&nbsp;

Who is/are your favorite models?
JELLA: I like Adut Akech. Then, of course, Bella Hadid. And then, of course the iconic Kendall Jenner.
JACH: Always Sora Choi, Bella Hadid, and Mica Arga&ntilde;araz.&nbsp;
BETHANY: Bella Hadid. Always obsessed with her. Seeing how she was before and seeing how she&rsquo;s grown as a model now.
SIOBHAN: I love Bella Hadid. I mean, how could you not? I love Kiko. She&rsquo;s been my favorite since I was on Tumblr. I love Lily-Rose Depp because she does that siren eye thing and it looks so good on her.

What made you realize that you wanted to pursue modeling?
JELLA: I actually never thought I could be. But, ever since I was young, seeing them on TV, I thought, &ldquo;I want to do that.&rdquo; I got into an agency. Then, it just grew and grew. It&rsquo;s like a dream come true.&nbsp;
JACH: It wasn&rsquo;t something that I really wanted to do. It just came suddenly. I was in college and pursuing music. That&rsquo;s when I met my best friend. She saw something in me. I&rsquo;m not sure what it was because I was pre-puberty. I had braces! She said, &ldquo;You should try modeling.&rdquo; She told me to go to castings for PMAP. That&rsquo;s when my career started. I didn&rsquo;t know I could excel in this because I wasn&rsquo;t even thinking of fashion before. I just found this passion within this. It&rsquo;s not just modeling and being pretty. I like the feeling of posing in front of the camera&ndash;portraying something. I&rsquo;m glad.&nbsp;
BETHANY: I don&rsquo;t know if it&rsquo;s cliche, but I&rsquo;ve always loved being in front of the camera, people taking pictures of me. I&rsquo;ve always loved that. Being given the opportunity to do so, I found out that I actually really like doing it professionally.&nbsp;
SIOBHAN: I guess I fell into it. I didn&rsquo;t think it would be a full-time thing until it just got busier and busier. I only started full-time when I graduated college. So, up until I graduated, I thought I&rsquo;d get an office job. But then I realized I couldn&rsquo;t do that. So I kept modeling, and now I&rsquo;m here.
