The Davao-based brand is giving natural textiles an updated spin.

The brainchild of three young designers (Ivanna Lagman, Patty Quezon, and Carla Uyanguren, all fashion design graduates from the Philippine Women&rsquo;s College of Davao), EXE is a Davao-based brand focused on the conscious production of clothing, dedicated to its step-by-step mindfulness reflected in fabric selection, designs, and the resulting garments&rsquo; versatility.
META, the label's debut collection, tells a poignant story of growth. Drawn primarily from the designers&rsquo; individual and shared experiences, their aspirations, ambitions, and fascination with butterflies ties META into a cohesive 15-piece release. META reflects this evolution through subtle details based on a butterfly's metamorphosis.

SaPin, a fiber blend made from banana (saging) and pineapple (pi&ntilde;a) plantation wastes, was the primary material used to create META's pieces. A product of the brand founders' graduate thesis, the fabric was processed with the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), then woven by T&rsquo;boli weavers in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

"Although everything was done with intention, some ideas, such as the butterfly hat transition in the final look, came as a surprise. It was only going to be a hat, but while playing around with the clothing, [we discovered] that it could actually [resemble] wings," the designers shared to L'Officiel Philippines. "That's how the whole of META [became] tied together: all thanks to a serendipitous encounter while creating the garments."

"We often only see how beautiful a butterfly is and yet forget the stages it had to go through for it to bloom and become the way it is," the trio continues. "[With] this collection, we want to show that every stage [of life] is significant and holds beauty on its own."
