Emir Yamamoto shares the inspirations, sketches, and creative processes that led to his latest Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival collection.&nbsp;

Emir Yamamoto's new collection for Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival takes inspiration from the sky's ever-changing colors and the wishful thought of travel. His Pre-Fall collection, titled Off-Road Regalia, explores different silhouettes and colors, from a searing orange ruffled midi frock, a body-hugging black sheath, to a pleated bridal shirtdress. While the designer keeps busy renovating and expanding his studio gallery-cum-production space, he speaks to L'Officiel&nbsp;about his latest release. &nbsp;

On the name of his Pre-Fall collection
"The title Off-Road Regalia comes from [the video game Final Fantasy]. It's [the] name of a truck ridden by a fictional crown prince together with his accomplices; he travels to different places [meeting] unsurfaced road, which is where the adventure starts."

On working under lockdown
"Production was not easy. There were a few pieces I made for myself and others that I had to send to my sewer to finish. [We] required disinfection of the raw materials before handling them. The challenge, mostly, is the logistics, since at the time we weren't allowed to have our workers come to the production studio."

On the line's color palette
"The color selection came from the trips I had going north with my family when I was little. We would travel via car at midnight, then [have] breakfast at the highway gasoline stops, eventually arriving at my aunt's resthouse in Baguio City at noontime. I can still remember the colors of the sky and landscape from midnight to dawn and dawn to noon, hence [the collection's] first few looks being black, followed by prismatic colors. It eventually ends in white, representing noontime, when the bright sun hits the landscape, making everything hard to look at and turning everything blank white."

On the collection's influences
"For this ready-to-wear collection, I mainly [thought] of travel, but [there were also] certain characters from TV shows and movies I was inspired by, namely Sons of Anarchy and Erin Brockovich. Keeping those characters in mind, I [also] injected the collection with silhouettes and materials from different eras of fashion. This is what I usually do in order for the collection to not be one-dimensional."

On the final look as a bridal piece
"I am a big Karl Lagerfeld fanatic. I wanted to inherit his signature of ending a collection with a bridal dress. Having said that, this is also my favorite look from our Pre-Fall line because it's unique, and someone with a deep knowledge of fashion would appreciate it."

On his choice of runway song
"I used the song &ldquo;I Know a Place&rdquo; by MUNA as my runway music for its relatable rebellious-hippie lyrics; and, somehow, it synchronizes with the collection. [Sadly], we were only allowed to play the instrumental version [during the show]."
