From Europe&rsquo;s languid nightlife to Manila&rsquo;s sleek runway, Chris Nick reimagines his summer of indulgence into a collection of pleasure and possibility.

After a summer spent drenched in Europe&rsquo;s intoxicating allure &mdash; of flashing lights, of pulsing beats, of spilled drinks, and of unhurried conversations that stretched deep into the night &mdash; Chris Nick found the essence of his collection for this year&rsquo;s Manila Fashion Week.&nbsp;
Through tailored tuxedos and skin-toned hues, he translated all these memories and experiences into forms and silhouettes that blended sophistication and sensuality. In an exclusive interview with L&rsquo;Officiel Philippines, Chris Nick reflected on how music and his love for the nightlife fuel his creativity and how fashion and travelling continue to shape his pursuit of freedom and self-expression.

What inspired your collection this year? Was there any specific story or something you wanted to show?&nbsp;
Well, every collection, you know, is inspired by the life that I live, or the things that, you know, I grew up liking. So, for this season, it's actually a very hedonistic approach to the life I live. So, when I travel, it's the parties, it's the clubs, it's the people that you meet. So, it's a very hyper-sexualized interpretation of fashion for me. So, you're going to see lots of variations of the tuxedo, which I never use in my work. And yeah, so it's essentially just, you know, like, it's one big, fun, sexy party.
Can you walk through the process of creating this collection?&nbsp;
The process of creating the collection, actually, you know what, when I design, it kind of starts with music first, which is fun, actually. Which I actually also find weird, but it starts with music. So, I spent the month in Europe for the summer, and this is just like a collective of all the very naughty things that I've been doing, and you know, I'm very, how do I say, sexually free. I don't know, I just like to express myself in that way, and all my collections are sort of related to that aspect.
During the process, were there any challenges or breakthroughs?&nbsp;
Challenges? Not really, I don't know why people keep asking me that. But to be honest, you know, I like to keep things simple. I don't like to overcomplicate things if things can be done quickly and in a very streamlined way, and I'm not the type to get stressed about very mundane things.&nbsp;&nbsp;
You mentioned that you like to do things in a simpler way. Is there any difference for this collection from the past collections you did?&nbsp;
I guess you can see &mdash; well, we're doing color, we're doing beiges. It's like an interpretation, you know, because it's one big sex club &mdash; think of it that way. So, I guess the variations of beige could be, you know, different skin tones of the people around.&nbsp;
What do you hope for the audience to take away from your collection?&nbsp;
That I'm just really me, I'm in my own lane, and I'm just, you know, very unapologetic. I think Manila knows that I'm just a very Manila guy.
How is it important for local designers to have Manila Fashion Week as a platform?&nbsp;
Every artist needs a platform. It's to express one's work, and it's just such a great thing to have Manila Fashion Week back. And it's its first year back, and I hope that a lot of other designers get the chance to express themselves through this platform, and you know I hope it all turns out well.&nbsp;
What's your message to aspiring young designers?&nbsp;
Just be yourself. No other person can represent your brand better than you. Just don't try too hard.
