Here’s what you can expect from the Filipino drama-thriller series according to Janine Gutierrez.

We’ve seen just about every relationship trope in Filipino teleseryes: childhood sweethearts, love triangles, second chances, and the classic rich guy-poor girl romance. But what do you think happens when love becomes a game of suspicion and deception? That’s the question at the center of The Loyalty Game, a new psychological drama-thriller from Prime Video that puts trust to the ultimate test. Filipino actress and The Loyalty Game star Janine Gutierrez sat down with L’Officiel Philippines to share how she brought her character to life in the series and why you shouldn’t miss out on Prime Video’s latest Filipino original.

While The Loyalty Game focuses on the complexities of love and trust, it takes the relationship trope in a much darker and more psychological direction. Inspired by the growing social media trend of couples testing their partners' fidelity by hiring so-called loyalty testers, the Prime Video series peels back the layers of a marriage in crisis. But rather than relying on predictable teleserye formulas, the series runs to keep viewers on their toes through mystery, suspense, and emotional storytelling. And for Janine Gutierrez, that unpredictability was what immediately stood out when she first read the script.
Initially expecting her character Ana to be the vulnerable wife navigating the threat of a third party, Janine realized that there was much more to her character. “I didn't know that Ana has so many issues and traumas within herself from her childhood, from her family, from her past,” she shared. “So I thought it would be kind of a chill marriage story. I was expecting it to be like a usual drama, but apparently not. She has her own kind of darkness and so much fear and anxiety.”

Bringing such an emotional complexity to her role also required the actress to continuously evolve alongside the script, to which she shared was revealed to her week by week throughout production. “The more information I got, the deeper I'd have to dig then within myself,” she shared. “Then just whatever similar experiences that I've had in my life, similar to Ana, I just try to really heighten that and use that place of vulnerability and paranoia and fear in a relationship and try to show that.”
To prepare, she also turned to the movie 'The Housemaid'—one of the creative team's key references—and leaned on the guidance of directors Mae Cruz-Alviar and Cathy Garcia-Sampana, whose perspectives on marriage helped her shape Ana's emotional world. But ultimately, Janine anchored every performance around a single defining trait. “I always try to attach a certain major personality trait to each character. So for Ana, it was really paranoia. And that's something that guided all her decisions and her choices so that's what I would always try to step into before each shoot day or each scene.”

Beyond its gripping storyline, The Loyalty Game also boasts a star-studded cast. And for Janine, collaborating with such an accomplished ensemble of talents was one of the highlights of the project. “It is so cool because there are so many talented people. Honestly, it's such a big ensemble, and everybody has their own storyline which really heightens the level of drama and thrill in the show,” Janine shared. She also expressed her appreciation for the series’ female-driven dynamic, noting how refreshing it was to work on a project led predominantly by women. "It's the first time I've seen a series like this where there's basically only one guy, and it's all women," she shared. "Ang saya. I enjoy that about it."
