Jerry&rsquo;s images feel rooted even when they look global, intimate even when they&rsquo;re fashion-forward. There&rsquo;s no spectacle for spectacle&rsquo;s sake. Just people, seen clearly.
A graduate of NIT Warangal and now represented by ALF, Jerry&rsquo;s practice moves fluidly between fashion, culture, documentary, styling, portraiture, and long-form projects. However, categories don&rsquo;t really stick. What anchors everything is feeling. &ldquo;When a photograph feels true, I approve it internally as Jerry,&rdquo; they say. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s when I know it&rsquo;s real, honest, and exactly how I intended it to be.&rdquo; Jerry doesn&rsquo;t just shoot images; in fact, they listen to them.
Photography, for Jerry, is less about control and more about surrender. They describe the act of shooting as meditative, guided by how they feel about the subject rather than imposing a rigid vision. Identity, self-love, and belonging are recurring themes, but never in a didactic way. Instead, they unfold quietly in posture, styling, silence, skin.
Take the images of Khushi Rathee, styled by Blake Samson, a German stylist based in Mumbai. Shot on analogue film, the photographs explore how Indian skin is perceived through a Western styling lens. Jerry&rsquo;s photobook, Who Am I?!, is perhaps the clearest distillation of their ethos. A portrait of Rem from the project strips identity down to its emotional core &mdash; self-reflection without performance. The project itself is rooted in style, art, and fashion, but more importantly, voice. It centres people often overlooked in Indian fashion media, creating space rather than extracting stories. &ldquo;I approach collaboration by giving my subjects freedom to exist as they are,&rdquo; Jerry explains. It&rsquo;s a simple philosophy, and a radical one.
That openness extends to Jerry&rsquo;s other subjects, too. Seerat Saini, a Punjabi-American influencer photographed during her time in Mumbai, caught Jerry&rsquo;s attention not just for her look, but her voice &mdash; clear, confident, unafraid. Amit Malhotra, book designer and co-founder of Gul Sohrab Studio, appears wearing garments from his own brand, blending multiple Indian textiles. To Jerry, this isn&rsquo;t just personal style; it&rsquo;s a glimpse of where Indian fashion is headed: layered, thoughtful, and unbothered by rigid definitions.
Ikisvon Jamang, a fashion influencer from Northeast India now based in Delhi, is another favourite. Effortless, expressive, deeply individual &mdash; qualities Jerry gravitates towards instinctively. And then there&rsquo;s Ayesha Kanga, actor and creative, one of Mumbai&rsquo;s most exciting boundary-pushers, constantly experimenting with fashion and gently disrupting Bollywood&rsquo;s visual codes. Jerry doesn&rsquo;t mythologise these figures; they simply meet them where they are.
Silence plays a crucial role in that meeting. Jerry tends to speak very little during shoots, especially in personal projects. In that quiet, something shifts. &ldquo;The photographs often carry the energy of what&rsquo;s left unspoken between me and the person in front of the camera,&rdquo; they say. What emerges is often more honest, and more surprising, than the first impression. It&rsquo;s the difference between looking and seeing.
This sensitivity may trace back to Jerry&rsquo;s roots. Growing up in a village meant growing up close to textiles, craft, and a self-sustaining way of life. Beauty wasn&rsquo;t something curated for a screen; it existed in everyday details. That grounding still shapes how Jerry photographs India today, across cities, communities, and subcultures. Culture, after all, isn&rsquo;t confined to institutions. It lives in gestures, fabric, conversations, and bodies moving through space.
Jerry is also acutely aware of what&rsquo;s missing in Indian fashion media. Much of it remains Bollywood-centric, narrowing how fashion is seen and understood. &ldquo;What I see around me feels global, yet rooted here,&rdquo; they say. Their work aims to bridge that gap &mdash; to place Indian fashion within a global conversation without flattening its complexity.

Photography entered his world the way most lifelong passions do: accidentally, playfully, almost illegally. &ldquo;My dad was a video journalist,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;When I was around 12, I used to steal his camera.&rdquo; He&rsquo;d bring it to school, photograph his friends, document whatever caught his eye. &ldquo;For me, the power of togetherness is that moment where you&rsquo;re stripped of performance,&rdquo; he explains. &ldquo;You can show your most sincere version to someone else, and be met with love and acceptance.&rdquo; Working on the series deepened his understanding of others, yet it also reframed his own relationships &mdash; with his partner, with his family, with friends he now sees more clearly.
His visual language &mdash; soft light, muted colour, composed restraint &mdash; owes a lot to contrast. Jerusalem, he says, isn&rsquo;t so different from New York. Both are diverse, hectic, and strangely warm. Both hold joy and fear in the same breath. &ldquo;First love, adolescence, deep friendships &mdash; many times they were intertwined with war and unrest,&rdquo; he says. Being invited into someone&rsquo;s private space is a privilege, not a right. &ldquo;If they open up to me, I should open up to them too,&rdquo; he says. Trust has to be mutual. Often, he finds himself listening more than shooting, holding space like a quiet confidant. &ldquo;Sometimes I feel like a therapist,&rdquo; he admits, half-smiling. Raised in the American Midwest by two pragmatic immigrant parents, photography was never presented to Isabelle as a viable future, but more like a pleasant hobby you quietly outgrow. Sensible jobs were encouraged. Stability was the goal. Then, in 2020, the world cracked open. &ldquo;All our illusions of stability flew out the window,&rdquo; she says. In the chaos of the pandemic, Isabelle arrived at a simple, liberating conclusion: the world&rsquo;s gone to pieces; I may as well pursue what I love.
Now based in Brooklyn, Isabelle is a self-taught photographer whose work hums with intimacy, tenderness, and a stubborn belief in beauty. Her images don&rsquo;t shout. They linger. They sit with you. They ask a gentle but insistent question: who do you belong to, and where?
Togetherness is the through-line of the photographs she&rsquo;s selected for this project. Siblings, lovers, friends, shared cultural ties &mdash; each image explores connection from a different angle, but the emotional request is the same: belonging. Somewhere, with someone. It&rsquo;s one of the most fundamental human needs, Isabelle notes, and a quiet force behind how we move through the world. There is nothing dramatic about her photographs, but they are always intertwined with intimacy and authenticity that invite viewers to pause and look.
That sensitivity has been shaped by geography as much as experience. Moving from the Midwest to Brooklyn was, of course, a change of scenery, but also a reckoning. When Isabelle first arrived in New York, she tried hard to shed her Midwestern identity. Her hometown hadn&rsquo;t been an easy place to grow up, and like many young creatives, she was determined to &ldquo;make it&rdquo; in the city. That first year, she admits, she mimicked dominant fashion and editorial aesthetics without stopping to ask whether those images actually felt like her.
The irony? It didn&rsquo;t work.
&ldquo;It wasn&rsquo;t until I let go of relevance and made images I felt deep in my own bones that my work began to receive recognition,&rdquo; she says. Authenticity, it turns out, has better timing than trend-chasing.
Today, Isabelle has made peace with being many things at once: the immigrant, the American, the transplant. She knows she can walk into spaces where no one looks like her, strike up conversations, and find common ground. Home exists in multiple forms &mdash; on a farm, working with her hands; in the smell of jiaozi boiling on the stove; in the electric hum of her Bed-Stuy neighbourhood. That emotional patchwork shows up in her work as a collage of worlds loved deeply and simultaneously.
At one point, Isabelle described herself as a former pessimist who now treats image-making as &ldquo;an insistence on beauty.&rdquo; The shift didn&rsquo;t happen overnight. She&rsquo;s long been drawn to photographing intimacy, which feels almost ironic given that she grew up in an environment where it was scarce. As a teenager, photography became a way to look beyond the limits of her own life. If I can photograph it, then it exists, she thought. Beauty, in that sense, was defiant.
Stillness, however, didn&rsquo;t come naturally. Isabelle laughs at the idea. Her work, she says, represents her at her most aspirational. Behind the camera, the vulnerability of her subject becomes sacred. That sense of responsibility forces her to slow down, to be calm, clear-eyed, and present, even when her inner world is anything but. The lens becomes a discipline rather than just a tool.

Every day, feeds are flooded with devastation and cruelty, and she felt the pull towards despair.
That moment clarified something important: those images weren&rsquo;t her calling. Her work lives on the other side of the conversation.
After the protest, Isabelle travelled across the country, photographing and speaking with progressive Americans resisting Trump&rsquo;s presidency in deeply conservative, rural towns. The one-on-one kitchen-table conversations she had there &mdash; quiet, complex, human &mdash; were far more hopeful than the news had suggested. Political despair in America is real, she says. But so is hope.
Perhaps that belief is why community has become one of the sweetest surprises of her career. Isabelle entered photography expecting posturing, performativity, and gatekeeping, especially as someone who didn&rsquo;t go to art school or grow up in New York. Instead, she found mentors, collaborators, editors, and friends who were generous, grounded, and passionate. She landed in what she calls &ldquo;a soft place&rdquo; in the city.
