Rooted in this connection, the Ganzon family was inspired to reimagine their property. Situated within Villa Vicenta Farms, the resort is located on what was once an agro-industrial complex that housed more than 50,000 egg-laying chickens.&nbsp;
Beyond its production roots, the farm had long been a backdrop for the family&rsquo;s weekend getaways. But when the pandemic brought them back more often, they began to see the area differently &mdash; picturing it alive with shared stories, joyful laughter, and meals enjoyed in good company.&nbsp;

To bring this vision to life, they tapped Dominic Galicia Architects, who are celebrated for their sensitivity to heritage spaces. With the request of the owners, the architectural team kept the original trusses of the poultry farm, rebuilt on their footprint, and used materials that came from the land. The result is a thoughtful haven that is not only storied with history but also grounded in sustainability.&nbsp;

<h4 style="text-align: center;">Rooted in the Land</h4>

Divided with intention, the resort is arranged into two distinct sections: the Reception Building, which houses the lobby, dining areas, and function halls, and the Cabins Building, where guests can escape into a private retreat. Designed to follow the land's natural shapes and contours, the buildings&rsquo; structure seamlessly camouflages itself in the surroundings. The open layout of the spaces also invites the warmth of the sunlight and embraces the refreshing breeze from the lush greenery. In 2023, it was even shortlisted for the Best Use of Natural Light prize at the World Architecture Festival.

The result was also built with gifts of the land &mdash; bamboo harvested from the property, mahogany woods reclaimed from old structures, woven banig ceilings crafted by Tingloy artisans, and eco-bricks pressed from recycled plastic bottles. Handwoven pillowcases by the Ibaan Sunrise Weavers Association and furniture crafted by artisans in Batangas further enriched the spaces with local craftsmanship and a sense of culture.&nbsp;

More than its architecture, Kilyawan also offers a range of experiences that immerse guests in life on the farm. A day tour lets them explore the orchard, hopping aboard a tractor or strolling on foot, where they can learn about the plants that the farm cultivates, such as their prides: the cacao trees, Golden Queen mangoes, and bamboos. The guests also get to have close interactions with the farm animals, like feeding the native black pigs and free-range chickens.&nbsp;
