Local dance film festival FIFTH WALL FEST returns with a transcendental edition that teases all senses.

Movement captured on film is movement that transcends its stage.&nbsp;
Through dance film, dance makes its way onto a digital world. The curtains are always open, and the show relies on a play button. But it's about more than accessibility. It allows two art forms to come together: dance meets filmmaking.&nbsp;
Dance film is formed out of a collaboration between visual and performance artists. Alongside choreography are cinematography&ndash;camerawork, editing, and cinematic form. The movement doesn&rsquo;t only happen on screen but also behind it.&nbsp;
The Philippines&rsquo; first international platform for dance film, FIFTH WALL FEST, celebrates this blend of art forms. As dance film is still relatively unfamiliar to most, the festival was created to &ldquo;bring the art of dance filmmaking into a space for visibility and education, honoring like-minded creatives in the process.&rdquo;

FIFTH WALL FEST first came into the picture a year ago, as the pandemic forced studios, stages, and performance centers to close their doors. Taking place entirely online, they screened 41 international and 16 local films, helping dance find its way to an audience amidst the closures.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The 'fifth wall' is the imaginary barrier that guests pass once they exit a venue after a cultural experience and return to their everyday lives,&rdquo; shares FIFTH WALL FEST. &ldquo;With this namesake in mind, FIFTH WALL FEST revolves around the idea of moving beyond the fifth wall in the hopes of reaching out to audiences, old and new, for a boundless celebration of dance from all angles.&rdquo;

This month, from October 8 to 17, FIFTH WALL FEST returns with a second (and more sensory) edition.
Much like their first edition, the 10-day main highlight of the event is the screening of dance films on their&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fifthwallfest.com/">digital platform</a>. This year&rsquo;s selection includes over 50 local and international films&ndash;originals like Levan Akin's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.gq.com/story/how-and-then-we-danced-became-2020s-most-controversial-movie">And Then We Danced</a>&nbsp;and classical reinterpretations like the Hong Kong Ballet's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.hkphil.org/watch-and-listen/online-programme/special-projects/hk-phil-x-hk-ballet-amadeus-a-cyberpunk-dream">Amadeus: A Cyberpunk Dream</a>.&nbsp;

However, the second edition of FIFTH WALL FEST promises an enhanced festival experience. Alongside the film screenings, they introduce Black Box, a series of talks and workshops with performance artists and cinematic creatives. FIFTH WALL FEST also partnered with local food establishments Panaderya Toyo and A Home Kewk for exclusive and limited-edition dishes, adding something tangible and flavorful to the virtual experience.

&ldquo;FIFTH WALL FEST was birthed for traversing across barriers and motions. Last year, we found ourselves grasping for new ways to consume visual imagery and movement,&rdquo; says Madge Reyes, FIFTH WALL FEST Founder and Director. &ldquo;This year, we&rsquo;re doing the same, however, embedding something more experiential &mdash; this time, teasing the different senses, and not just the eye.&rdquo;
