Set against the backdrop of Paris Fashion Week, Couture follows an independent filmmaker, a teenage model, and a makeup artist whose lives unexpectedly intertwine.

Although the fashion house is never named, Chanel is unmistakably the setting of Alice Winocour's Couture. The House is recognizable through its iconic mirrored spiral staircase, once used by models descending to present collections during the era of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, as well as the garments seen first on the atelier worktables before appearing on the runway.
Jolie plays an independent filmmaker invited to collaborate with a major fashion house during Paris Fashion Week. The short film she directs, featuring a wolf, references Jean-Luc Besson's iconic 1998 Chanel No. 5 commercial starring Estella Warren as Little Red Riding Hood, reimagined with a darker, horror-inspired twist.

Dressed in black leather, Jolie's character refuses to swap her own look for one from the fashion house while shooting social media content, putting her at odds with a system eager to embrace independent creative talent yet reluctant to give it complete freedom. Those professional tensions quickly fade into the background, however, when she learns she has an especially aggressive form of breast cancer requiring immediate treatment.
The storyline inevitably recalls Jolie's own experience. The actress famously underwent a preventive double mastectomy after discovering she carried a genetic mutation that significantly increased her risk of developing the same form of breast cancer that claimed her mother's life.

Jolie's story intertwines with that of Anyier Anei, an 18-year-old South Sudanese model making her debut while unexpectedly opening the runway show of a major fashion house and starring in Jolie's short film. Though new to the industry and still learning how to walk a runway, she is quickly positioned as a future supermodel. She shivers through her first photoshoot in an outfit that's far too light for the weather but remains grounded, recognizing the financial opportunities the industry offers without becoming captivated by its glamorous lifestyle of champagne, clubs, and celebrity. Instead, she finds support in the solidarity of the other models around her.

The film also follows Ella Rumpf as a makeup artist navigating the stress and financial exploitation of the fashion industry. Despite those challenges, she approaches the models with genuine empathy while pouring her energy into writing a book that explores the human stories hidden beneath social conventions.
The cast also includes Vincent Lindon as the surgeon who operates on Jolie's character and Louis Garrel as a cinematographer who becomes her lover.
