A title borrowed from a lyric about the end of the world, a one-take video starring Vincent Cassel, and a closing monologue by David Cronenberg. Here's everything to know before diving into Charli XCX's Music, Fashion, Film.

Even the promotional rollout makes it clear that Music, Fashion, Film isn't a slogan about Charli XCX's creative range. Instead, the title comes from a lyric in the single "SS26," where the pop star questions whether art, in any form, can truly save anyone. It's an ironic, disenchanted title for an album that presents itself as the exact opposite of a triumph.
That irony continues with the album cover. Rather than featuring Charli herself, the black-and-white artwork shows three men who quite literally represent the three words in the title: John Cale, Marc Jacobs, and Martin Scorsese. The image was photographed by Aidan Zamiri, who also directed every music video released during this album era.

Released today and once again produced with A.G. Cook and Easyfun, Music, Fashion, Film trades the dance-floor euphoria of Brat for a more stripped-back, guitar-driven pop sound. Across 11 tracks running just over half an hour, the album centers on an almost confessional reflection on identity, transformation, and the challenge of remaining true to yourself under the spotlight.
Its promotional campaign, however, tells a far more maximalist story. Charli staged two charity pop-up shows in New York and London, followed on July 10 by a global cinematic event, which also reached theaters in Italy, where audiences listened to the album in full alongside a film starring the artist. A North American tour is also set to begin in September, with festival stops at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.

Within the album's concept, each single represents one of the three words in the title: music with "Rock Music," fashion with "SS26," and now film with "Camera," which completes the trilogy. It's also the clearest expression of the album's central idea. In the lyrics, Charli admits her anxiety about stepping into acting at the age of 34, questioning whether she's betraying music in the process.

Directed by Zamiri, the black-and-white video for "Camera" was filmed in a single continuous take at a quarry in Kent. It transforms that anxiety into the image of a film production where everything goes wrong, from special effects that fail to lighting that overheats and ruins the shot. Vincent Cassel plays an exasperated actor who even references his iconic moment from La Haine by pointing two fingers at his temple, while Charli directs everything from behind the camera. It's no coincidence that Zamiri is behind the project. He also directed The Moment, the Sundance-premiered mockumentary about the end of the Brat era that sharply divided critics.

The rest of Music, Fashion, Film moves between direct tributes and darker reflections. "Magic Metal Montana" is dedicated to A.G. Cook, Charli's longtime producer, while closing track "No One Lasts Forever" features the album's only guest appearance: a spoken monologue by filmmaker David Cronenberg. At nearly six minutes, it is also the longest song on the record.
Early reactions have been mixed. Some have described the album as a necessary musical shift after the dominance of Brat, while others have found it too inward-looking, suggesting it speaks more to Charli and those closest to her than to the listener. The collective energy that turned Brat into a cultural phenomenon may be absent, but that distance also feels intentional. For an album whose title suggests that nothing can save us, perhaps the only thing left to do is tell the story of what remains when the makeup comes off and the pop star persona fades away.
