Beneath all the stones and spectacle sits a clear point of view.

The reason Myst de Cartier works is because it refuses to settle into what a watch is supposed to be. Cartier isn&rsquo;t interested in neat categories here. This piece is a jewellery and a timepiece all at once &ndash; and it carries that combination with enough certainty to make the whole thing appear considered. The result is less about telling the time and more about turning your wrist into a place where something interesting happens.
The strongest idea in the collection is movement. Not the mechanical kind, since this runs on quartz, but visuall. The bracelet swells and twists in these bead-like forms that give the piece a sculptural rhythm. The Maison connects this watch to the flamboyant jewellery watches that Jeanne Toussaint created in the 1930s, and you can see that history in the way Myst de Cartier treats ornament as structure rather than surface decoration.

The yellow gold version has the sharper personality. Black lacquer slices through the diamonds, the onyx-framed dial brings graphic tension, and the whole thing seems slightly surreal, like a precious talisman that happens to tell the time. The Maison decided to remove the clasp, which only strengthens that effect. It reads as one continuous object, something you slip into rather than strap on. The craftsmanship supports the concept without overwhelming it, from the bead setting that builds real volume to the hand-painted lacquer lines that sharpen every curve.

On the other hand, the white gold model takes the same design and strips away the contrast, leaving light to do the heavy lifting. Fully paved in diamonds, it&rsquo;s more elusive and atmospheric, with curves that seem to fade in and out depending on the angle.
