It&rsquo;s an &ldquo;everyday lengthening mascara&rdquo; that&rsquo;s clean and easy to remove&mdash;how does it fare? We test it out.

Excitement seems to surround just about any Sunnies Face launch, and their newest item Lashlift is no different. Dubbed an "everyday lengthening mascara," Lashlift is introduced to us through the brand&rsquo;s signature campaign aesthetic and its consistently cute packaging&mdash;but is the product worth the hype? We try it out and weigh in.&nbsp;

What the product is: Filipino beauty brand Sunnies Face is already known for creating makeup staples that earn a solid place in the everyday makeup bag, like the lipstick Fluffmatte. Each new product added into their lineup aims to bring ease into one&rsquo;s every day, and Lashlift fits the criteria: according to the brand, it brings instant lift and length with a perfect soft black finish that wears all day. It also has a special dual sided-brush for length and volume, and a clean formulation, which for Sunnies Face in particular, means it contains 100% natural dye and ingredients and is cruelty-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free. It&rsquo;s also an easy-remove formula that comes off with water.

First impressions: At first try, what we love about it are: the brush, the packaging, the messaging (easy, everyday), and how easily the product applies. The brush, which makes up a lot of a mascara&rsquo;s success, has great features: lengthening on one side and builds volume on the opposite, but more importantly, it holds just the right amount of product applied directly from the wand. Even with a lot of modern mascaras, most brushes still need to be wiped off before use as it tends to clump the formula onto the bristles, but the Lashlift brush does not do that.

How it performs: Lashlift really does make the lashes look longer and fuller in the most natural way possible and it does make the lashes look fluffy (&rdquo;are those your real lashes?&rdquo; is the energy, apparently). You don&rsquo;t feel it when you wear it and it improves the lash look quickly without needing to layer much as well, although if you wanted to, you could, without the lashes getting heavy. It can get spidery though, if you layered a bit more after the product has already dried. It performs almost like Fairydrops mascara or Glossier Lash Slick.&nbsp;

However, the &ldquo;lift&rdquo; part literally doesn&rsquo;t hold too long, even for my lashes that already have relative thickness and length. I chalk that up to the fact that the formula is deliberately made to be not waterproof (although water-resistant is the claim, certain waxes in waterproof formulas hold curl better on top of preventing smudging and melting), so I&rsquo;m not too sure about how it&rsquo;ll performs on shorter, thinner lashes and in the South East Asian climate.&nbsp;

While it&rsquo;s only water and smudge-resistant, Lashlift carries through fairly OK on a hot half-day, but it can tend to smudge if you&rsquo;re on the oily side and it&rsquo;s been more than 5 hours. It really does remove incredibly easily with just water, no cleansers needed, which can be good for those who don&rsquo;t use makeup remover, but might not be a great feature for many Filipino beauty consumers who most likely already double cleanse or use micellar cleansers to remove their makeup.&nbsp;

The verdict: We&rsquo;d recommend this mascara for those who want a subtle boost for their lashes, like when you&rsquo;re working from home and want to look a little more bright-eyed for an impromptu zoom meeting, but we wouldn&rsquo;t recommend it if you're going out for errands, sweating, working out, have a long work day, or just a long day ahead. If you really wanted the light fluffy Lashlift effect but for longer, you could use it as a primer and coat a waterproof one over it to hold, but that would defeat the everyday, on-the-go purpose of it.
