<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">L&rsquo;Officiel talks Spring/Summer beauty trends with Regan Rabanal, MAC&rsquo;s Senior Manager of Makeup Artistry for Asia Pacific.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Makeup trends have always shape-shifted according to their audience, but patterns remain, working around changes in environment, in our vibe. Currently, makeup has fit into people&rsquo;s lives as an outlet for creativity, experimentation, and a way to feel good. We see this in this season&rsquo;s runways: how texture has determined how much we&rsquo;ve relied on skincare, how velvety skin can live alongside glassy complexion, how shapes and color have expanded in range, how beauty can be a dynamic creative platform that has room for everyone. We ask Regan Rabanal, MAC Cosmetics&rsquo; Senior Manager of Makeup Artistry for Asia Pacific, to discuss how time-tested trends translate into this year&rsquo;s modern beauty.&nbsp;</span></p>
<h6><b>It feels as if the beauty world has shifted towards skincare a lot the past year, and then this season&mdash;surprise&mdash;it appears the colors in our makeup bag will still be put to good use. What are the most refreshing colorful trends you loved seeing in the shows this season? How do brights live alongside a dewy face?</b></h6>
<p><b></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I agree that skincare has definitely moved center-stage, not only from a consumer standpoint but from a fashion perspective as well. On the shows that did have color elements within the look, I think what excites me most is the harmony of textures with a more light-reflective skin and a velvety matte shadow or lip. &ldquo;Perfect skin&rdquo; has always had its place backstage&mdash;understated, not overdoing it or applying too much product. Over the last 10 years that I&rsquo;ve worked Fashion Week in NYC, London, Milan, and Paris, there has been a gradual, but big shift to casting a wider variety of people and personalities to bring a sense of authentic storytelling to the designers&rsquo; collections. Diversity and authenticity are so important, and we want to present a sense of truth to the audience; this shift towards more natural makeup and skincare trends reflects this. Even before COVID-19, we were seeing the natural vibe grow in popularity. But, over the last year, people have pivoted to skincare for pampering or to resolve skin issues that have developed in a mask-mandatory climate. Bright shades of eyeshadow and lips are an instant pick-me-up, and for online, we have seen people expressing themselves more and more through exaggerated eye make-up and lip combos because we&rsquo;ve had more time to experiment at home. My trick is to let color theory inspire your creativity! If you have brown eyes, try something blue. For green eyes, pick up a rosy brown. For blue eyes, a peachy bronze shade is a must! For skin, my favorite shades this season are bright pastels in the peach and rose shades, pressed into the skin for a soft, healthy flush. It&rsquo;s about achieving that sought-after glow by using products with a lower level of pearl to help balance a dewier skin. If you haven&rsquo;t tried our Glow Play Blush, it&rsquo;s quite an innovative cream blush with a bouncy, blurring effect for skin with a soft, satin finish.</span></p>

<h6><b>The natural look will always be reincarnated in runways. What were your favorite recreations of the look? We noticed a clean base was common in most of the runway beauty. Since readers love &ldquo;hacks&rdquo;&mdash;any foundation or base tricks you&rsquo;d love to share to get that fresh face&mdash;and especially for our tropical climate, how to keep it snatched the whole day?</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yes, the natural look will always be around, and I love how nuances build or shift from season to season. And I&rsquo;m loving the term snatched! But yeah, I&rsquo;m with your readers, I love good budget-friendly beauty hacks! Like everyone, I&rsquo;ve had more time at home so I&rsquo;ve been trying some new layering techniques with skincare and foundation products. Recently, my jam has been using M∙A∙C Lightful Softening Lotion for skin prep with cotton squares to hydrate my skin. The formula is like a liquid lotion with Japanese seaweed, gentian root, Vitamin C and coral grass to improve skin texture and reduce spots over time. After that you can use a moisturizing cream depending on your skin type. My next step is the M∙A∙C Lightful C Tinted Primer SPF 45 which has the same ingredients as the liquid lotion, but with added pearls and a rosy tone base which help to add instant vitality to the skin. If you have even skin, you could stop at this point, but I have areas that need a bit of coverage so I move onto foundation. I highly recommend the M∙A∙C Prolongwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation as you can also use it as a concealer. My tip is to use it sparingly where you need it, and the added benefit is that it&rsquo;s a transfer- and humidity-resistant, mask-friendly formula that lasts 36 hours! To keep everything on-lock, set the t-zone area and line of the mask with M∙A∙C Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder and bring all layers together with a few spritzes of M∙A∙C Fix+ Spray for a unified finish.</span></p>

<h6><b>We know that eyeliner as a trend has a lot of room for movement and change each season but it seems as if the playful eye is having a strong moment now. How would you describe the way eye makeup comes alive this season? What is your advice for readers who would love to try it? Any tips on how to wear with ease and comfort?</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of my favorite eyeliners this season was from the Giambattista Valli show. Super graphic, modern and saucer-like in shape, and I loved the black, suede finish paired with natural skin. It&rsquo;s probably not going to be everyone&rsquo;s go-to eyeliner look, but I think the use of shape that complemented the models&rsquo; eyes was a win. The best way to experiment with eyeliner is to follow the shape of your eye and lifting the outer corners with a line will look best as it gives the impression that you&rsquo;re smiling. Depending on how much eyelid space you have you can continue to build the thickness of the line&mdash;go slowly and check your work. If you have a hidden crease or smaller eyelid, continue to build on top or take it to the lower lash-line to further define the frame of your eyes. Black might be a bit intense for beginners so I would recommend brown or taupe to start and a pencil that&rsquo;s creamy so you can smudge and soften the edges. Try M∙A∙C Teddy Eye Kohl; I&rsquo;m such a fan of this shimmery, smokey chestnut color! When you think you&rsquo;ve gone far enough, take some photos and send to a friend and try wearing it around town if you can. How does it make you feel? If you felt amazing, then great job, and if you felt kind of crazy, that&rsquo;s also great! It&rsquo;s important to try things, but also learn from your mistakes so long as you feel empowered and beautiful along the way.</span></p>

<h6><b>We love the clean, understated glam seen in runways for spring 2021. How would you say this season has refreshed the statement lip? How would you update the elements around it (is it a lighter eye, a cleaner brow, etc.) so it stays modern and polished?</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">I love clean and understated glam. It&rsquo;s definitely my vibe, and color is such a powerful statement whether it&rsquo;s your shoes or your lips. I think that bold lips don&rsquo;t always have to be about deep reds or fiery oranges (although I&rsquo;m here for those shades!) but I have noticed a move towards 90s taupes, nudes, and tea-rose lip tones. I think it&rsquo;s also about the slightly overdrawn shape that makes a bold statement or shows a bit of attitude&mdash;and the cooler, brown-based shades are just as edgy as the crimson reds. Your best bet to get the look of the season would be to pick up &ldquo;Over The Taupe&rdquo; and &ldquo;Mull It Over&rdquo; Powder Kiss Liquid Lipsticks. These shades work on everyone and create a full pout with the moisture matte technology that blurs the color into your natural lip shade. If you are more the crimson red kind of person, my must-have shade is &ldquo;M∙A∙C Smash&rdquo; Powder Kiss Liquid Lipstick for that true, clean red that goes from soft and sweet to full power depending how much you layer. Once you have your lip shade of choice, I think it&rsquo;s up to the wearer to define the rest of their features as they see fit. A more editorial approach would be a stripped-back, clean face with a bold lip (I love this look!) but for the everyday gal, add some definition to your brow and mascara to your lashes. It&rsquo;s always in fashion to groom your favorite features and present the best version of yourself&mdash;and you&rsquo;ll feel instantly lifted!</span></p>

<h6><b>Are there micro-trends you&rsquo;re living for? Looks we shouldn&rsquo;t be sleeping on? How does one incorporate it into their regular beauty routine?</b></h6>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&nbsp;</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Not sure how micro these are, but I&rsquo;ve been loving the surge of social media makeup on Instagram and TikTok and how there&rsquo;s been a pivot to gloss, glitter, and liner for eyes. It&rsquo;s been a treat to see the creativity of the artists, and people just playing around and having fun at home. I love colored eyeliner because I think it wakes up the eyes and can actually help to accentuate your eye color.
