As local beauty finds new ways to approach shade inclusivity, the conversation around morena skin is getting more specific about just how much can exist within one complexion label.

For a word used so often in Filipino beauty, 'morena' covers a lot of variation.
Depth can differ, undertones can shift, and the shade that works for one complexion may not work for another. So when it comes to shade inclusivity, reaching the deeper end of a range is only part of it.
Some newer complexion products in local beauty are approaching that variation in different ways, whether through more shades to choose from, different combinations of depth and undertone, or formulas designed to work across several skin tones.
Issy’s Fluid Flex Concealer gets specific with 27 shades spanning fair to deep skin tones, with neutral, olive, and warm undertones available across nine different skin depths.

That gives you quite a few places to start looking for a match. And with undertones to consider alongside depth, two complexions that look pretty close might still need different shades.
Then there is Happy Skin’s PLAY Skin Tint, which comes in 14 shades covering different skin depths and undertones. The range moves from Porcelain Beige and Ivory Beige to deeper options like Caramel Beige, Almond Beige, Golden Beige, and Mocha Beige.

And even toward the deeper end, the choices are not limited to one depth or undertone. Morena complexions can still vary quite a bit, so having several shades to choose from matters here, too.
Alongside these wider shade ranges, some brands are also exploring how their formulas can work across different skin tones.
Ferca Beauty’s MainBase Skin Tint SPF50+ takes a different approach. The skin tint comes in Light, Medium, and Tan and uses what the brand calls color-adapt technology.

With this, each shade is designed to adapt across a broader range of skin tones, putting more of the shade-matching work into the formula itself.
And across these different approaches, shade inclusivity is becoming about more than simply having a shade for morena skin. There are different depths and undertones to consider, and more than one way for beauty brands to make room for them.
Seeing morena skin represented in beauty matters, but so does recognizing the variation within it.
Because morena was never one shade in the first place.
