Belle Mariano's makeup artist reveals how he created this translucent beauty look that is almost undetectable.

In beauty, the pendulum has been moving away from visibly perfected complexions toward makeup that enhances rather than conceals. From serum-like foundations to sheer, buildable formulas, the modern complexion is less about covering the skin and more about letting it remain visible.
The idea is simple enough: makeup, but make it look like skin. The result is a kind of transparent beauty where coverage is strategically placed, texture is allowed to exist, and the finished face looks less like a makeup look and more like an exceptionally polished version of the person wearing it. Even as beauty trends move between dewy, blurred, and matte finishes, that skin-first philosophy continues to define the current approach to minimalist makeup.
Locally, makeup artist Jake Galvez has perfected this kind of barely-there beauty on Belle Mariano in a recent Instagram post. At first glance, there is almost nothing to trace. The makeup is there, but it does not get in the way of Belle looking like Belle.

“The inspo was really just an elegant, natural soft glam. I wanted her to still look like herself. Fresh, polished and effortless, but with a little more definition on the eyes,” Galvez says. Here, he breaks down how you can get Belle's untraceable beauty look to a T.

<h4 class="isSelectedEnd">1. Start with the right skin prep.</h4>
The key to an undetectable base starts before foundation. Galvez used the POND'S Bright Miracle Ultimate Clarity Day Serum on Mariano’s skin to add hydration and create a dewy finish.
“I always start with the right skin prep because it really makes a difference. For Belle, I used the Pond’s serum in pink (best for her skin) before makeup to give her skin that extra hydration and dewy finish.”
<h4 class="isSelectedEnd">2. Apply foundation only where you need it.</h4>
Rather than covering the entire face, Galvez used YSL Cushion Foundation lightly, focusing on areas that needed more coverage. This precision approach allows the natural skin to remain visible.
“For me, less is really more. I don’t like covering the entire face with foundation and powder. I prefer doing precision makeup, only putting product where it’s actually needed and letting the natural skin show through.”
<h4 class="isSelectedEnd">3. Keep the complexion soft and flushed.</h4>
For Mariano’s cheeks, Galvez used Talee Beauty Lip and Cheek Tint Mud&nbsp;in Barely There. A cream blush helps maintain the seamless, skin-like finish rather than layering too much powder or pigment over the complexion.
“The key really was keeping everything light and letting her skin come through.”
<h4 class="isSelectedEnd">4. Groom the brows without making them too graphic.</h4>
Galvez used Benefit eyebrow pencil and brow gel to define Mariano’s brows while keeping their overall appearance natural. The goal is polished rather than overly drawn.
<h4 class="isSelectedEnd">5. Add subtle definition to the eyes.</h4>
The look may be minimal, but the eyes still have definition. Galvez created a little more emphasis around the eyes with custom-made lashes, keeping the effect soft enough to complement the rest of the face.

<h4 class="isSelectedEnd">6. Finish with a natural-looking lip.</h4>
On Mariano’s lips, Galvez used Talee Beauty Lip and Cheek Tint Mud&nbsp;in&nbsp;Cinnamon Girl, adding just enough color to complete the look without making the lip the focal point.
<h4 class="isSelectedEnd">7. Blend everything until it disappears into the skin.</h4>
The final step is less about adding more product and more about making sure everything works together. Galvez applied the foundation, cream blush, brows, eyes, and lips in that order, keeping each layer soft and blended.
“Then I applied the foundation lightly, focusing only on areas that needed more coverage, followed by cream blush, brows, eyes and then lastly the lips. I kept everything soft and blended so the whole look felt seamless.”
